As part of its Espace Entrepreneuriat, the Amani Festival is launching its 4th Entrepreneurship Contest which gives young entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their business projects to a jury of experts. They will be in with a chance of winning USD 1,500 and comprehensive entrepreneurship training. The aim of the competition is to support young entrepreneurs in the region.

The contest

The Entrepreneurship Contest is a competition for start-up projects which is open to all. The concept is simple: present a commercial project to a jury of experts.


The three best projects will each be awarded the sum of USD 1,500 in the form of an interest-free loan from Amani Festival to go towards starting their business.


The contest consists of three stages:

  1. Registration: to participate in the contest, entrepreneurs must fill in the online application before midnight on Sunday November 25th, 2018.
  2. Training: the 10 selected finalists will take part in a workshop organized by Kivu Entrepreneurs to help them prepare for the final. Dates to be determined.
  3. Final: oral presentation of the project – Thursday February 14th, 2019: the 10 selected teams will defend their projects during a 10-minute oral presentation and 5-minute Q&A session with the jury. The three winning teams will be announced by the jury during the official ceremony.

The official award ceremony will take place on Thursday February 14th, 2019 at the Kivu Lodge hotel.


To take part in the contest, teams must:

  • Consist of 1-4 people
  • Have a project which will create jobs
  • Register before midnight on Sunday November 25th, 2018
  • Agree to abide by the contest rules in the link below
  • Have defined a project leader who is committed to dedicating 100% of their time to building the project if it is selected. This contest is not intended for entrepreneurs who are already earning wages or who are engaged in a full-time professional activity.


Amani Festival affirms its commitment to promoting female participation in the economy as a major challenge in terms of dignity, peace and development. Thus, women-lead projects or those facilitating women’s participation in economic activities will be welcomed by the selection committee and the jury.
